| Information | Sumitada, as a Kirishitan Daimyo, recommended Christianity to the local people. As a result, in Omura, some temples and shrines were destroyed by Kirishitan, and the whole area turned into Christianity. Muro-ji Temple at Sanjo Castle was used as a church, and Sumitada donated the Nanban Trade ports Nagasaki and Mogi to the Society of Jesus. This is how he came to have a deep relationship with Christianity.
According to a missionary Luis Frois, the number of the christians at the time was over 60000. |
